Coach John
Hi I'm Coach John. I have been a Youth Football Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator for many years as well as a High School Assistant & Defensive Backs Coach. I have played at various levels including High School, College, and Semi-Pro in the North American Football League as a 3x All-Star Free Safety.
Currently the Defensive Backs Coach for the Hamilton Hurricanes in the CJFL.
All of my mandatory coaching credentials are up-to-date including, Safe Contact, Ethical Decision Making and I am current for USport (University) and CJFL Levels.
I am a proud dad of a dance daughter and a Long Snapping Son!

What is Head Start Football?
Head Start Football focuses on the fundamental aspects of Canadian Tackle Football for "New to the Sport" and "New to 12v12 Football". We keep it simple. Head Start Football breaks down the core fundamentals and teaches them in a particular order so that they can build their knowledge along the way.
What is Thinkific?
What is Thinkific?
Thinkific is a full Learning Management System (LMS) we utilize to create our courses. Thinkific give us options for the athlete's learning styles like quizzes, visuals, and community boards. The Thinkific App is a great way to present the information in a way that a teenager is used to.

How much time does it take?
We were very mindful not to overload the athlete so we provide short videos and quizzes that can be started and stopped at anytime without losing your place. We also have completion percentages for each lesson and the athlete will never lose access to the course information.

What age group is Head Start Football best designed for?
Head Start Football is designed for the "new to tackle football" player who has never played 12 versus 12 football. There is a big transition for players going from 9 versus 9 to 12 versus 12. High School starts off at 12 versus 12.
What is the significance of 12 versus 12?
12 versus 12 are the amount of players on the field in High School Football in Canada. The strategy differs from 9v9 or 7v7 and the additional positions play a significant role in the responsibilities. We have found a large gap of knowledge when transitioning from 9v9 to 12v12, therefore never playing football before may seem like an insurmountable hill to climb right a way.
Will my daughter or son not learn how to play from their coaches?
Absolutely they will. At times, coaches may take for granted the knowledge level of each athlete especially if they are introverted. Coaches gauge the level of knowledge to help make decisions on the players readiness to play. Head Start Football is designed to provide the fundamental knowledge to get the athlete started with confidence.
Why was QB-IQ: Decoding Defenses added? It seems more than the basics.
QB-IQ: Decoding Defenses was designed to provide the next step for Quarterbacks. Reading defenses in micro-seconds is not easy, and I feel that as a Defensive Coordinator, I could provide a unique perspective to their understanding of the game.
What is Custom Team Courses?
The idea behind Custom Team Courses was to provide a unique way to have players learn different areas within their sport. Team designs are not just football, but any sport in which a organization or team could teach players. The advantage is that Coaches can provide their courses using our platform and set it and forget it. Trying to get all players in a room or zoom call may not be realistic in the off-season, so utilizing the Thinkific platform and App coaches can monitor progress and completion percentages.
